This is the latest creation from Fred Balling who has been working on recreations of a number of classic reels over the years. This “44 Special” is a reproduction of the classic Meek reels, first introduced by Kentucky watchmaker Benjamin Meek circa 1900.
This 44 Special has nickel silver faceplates, titanium spool flanges, and a naval bronze center axis. It also includes modern, precision-manufactured ceramic bearings designed for long life. The fine construction of this reel comes from a machine shop in Connecticut with whom Fred collaborated.
The diameter of the inside pullars is 2 3/8″, the interior width 1 1/16″, and is recommended for use with a 4 or 5 weight line. “Perfection” is stamped into the faceplate.
A handsome little creation and Fred has made a limited number of these so don’t miss out. This one is serial number 20, and is configured for LHW.
